GROUP PROGRAMS

The following groups are rotated throughout the year. Groups are offered depending on the needs of our clients and compatibility of the participants. 

Speech and Language Groups

Music-  conducted with a music therapist, focus on language development and social interaction

Hanen- curriculum based parent education group which focuses on development of early expressive language skills

Occupational Therapy Groups

Self-Regulation- lead by our OT, focus on development of emotion and behaviour regulation skills where the participants learn to combine sensory motor and cognitive behaviour (CBT) strategies to facilitate effective self-regulation (Alert Program for Self-Regulation, Zones of Regulation, Incredible 5-Point Scale

Pre-Printing/Handwriting/Fine Motor- group activities focus on the development of hand skills, with emphasis on the foundation skills necessary for printing

Peer Play- an activity based group where children have the opportunity to develop their play skills while an occupational therapist facilitates interaction and creates situations which encourage social engagement, follow-up recommendations are provided to parents to create similar play experiences at home with siblings and peers

Led by OT or SLP

Social Thinking- group based on the work of Michelle Garcia Winner and is directed to individuals with social challenges who need to learn how to recognize, interpret and act on social cues and understand how their behaviour impacts others

SOS Feeding- a program for picky eaters which provides increased exposure and interaction with food in a group setting with peers

Self-Regulation and Social Thinking

group therapy Grade 1 & 2

This program was developed by an occupational therapist to help teach children and their families about attaining, maintaining, or returning to an appropriate level of physiological arousal for the context they are in. Sensory-motor calming tools, cognitive behaviour tools (the Zones, 5 point scale), and social thinking tools will be explored.

Play Skills

 

The DIR/Floortime frame of reference is used to guide play between two participants. Goals include: expanding toy use, pretend play skills, and reciprocal play.

This camp was created to teach and enhance skills necessary for school success. The program will be designed to meet individual occupational therapy goals as well as focus on the development of self regulation and group participation skills.
